No car? No cell? No tech skills? No problem, when you’re UberWoman!

After a severe staff infection in 2008 combined with other health issues left this Oceanside single mother of three unable to stand for more than a few minutes or walk without extreme pain, Mary became unemployed, financially distressed, crowded into a tiny Section 8 apartment with her youngest son, and overwhelmed by seemingly insurmountable obstacles.

Undaunted, Mary reached deep inside herself to find the keys to success: relentless optimism, fearlessness, perseverance, a strong work ethic and incredible people skills. A serendipitous meeting with a counselor led her to a vocational rehabilitation center that supports people with disabilities in search of employment.

Deciding she wanted to be an Uber driver, Mary courageously leapt over hurdles. She leased a car through a special program, learned how to use an iPhone, GPS and Uber apps, and within six months was picking up her first customer.

“I handle 20 rides a night,” says this mid-fifties woman who is brimming with the energy of a 25-year-old. “I keep my car immaculate and full of creature comforts for my passengers. I couldn’t be happier. I’m earning money. I love what I do. I picked my self-confidence off the floor and now feel like I’m on top of the world.”

The German word über means super. They don’t get any more super than Mary!
