Vintage StoveMy functional 1930s Direct Action stove fits charmingly into my kitchen décor. Yes, I light the tiny broiler and oven pilots with a match, and yes, I adjust the temperature by hand, and yes, it occasionally needs a D&C, and sometimes a full-blown repair.

Fortunately, I have an appliance wizard (an actual human being, not a tech tool) who treats my vintage stove with TLC. Recently, he remedied a burner issue.

I asked him about longevity. He replied, “The stove is very simple. Not much can go wrong, and when things do go wrong, they usually can be fixed. Simple is good.”

Applying this principle to business communications, keeping things simple in terms of clear, consistent, easy-to-comprehend messages is key to cooking up a successful marketing strategy. Electronic communications in particular capture attention when copy is concise, pithy and accessorized with engaging images.

As with my vintage stove, simpler is better. When in doubt, edit it out.
